Dr. McCanna works hard to provide the highest quality surgical and medical care possible. Feeling that each patient is special and unique, extreme care is made to always keep the patient’s best interest in mind.
Born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin, Dr. McCanna loves being a Wisconsinite. He attended undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in the 1980’s during some lean football years. He then attended Medical School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After a year of internship at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He continues to learn and share his knowledge with family practice residents as an assistant clinical professor for the Eau Claire Family Practice Residency program.
Dr McCanna has been performing microscopic surgery for over 15 years with skill in all areas of ophthalmology including small incision (no-stitch) cataract surgery. Dr McCanna also provides care for glaucoma, retinal/macular disease, pediatric care, as well as external and eyelid issues. In addition, he has been performing safe and effective laser refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK) since 1999.
