Biography
Dr. Mithaq Vahedi learned early on that serving others leaves him with a sense of joy and satisfaction. He also has a love for science and for interacting with people of all backgrounds.
“When a teacher encouraged me to pursue a career in medicine, I started working toward becoming a doctor, and doors opened,” he said.
He chose his specialty area because of the learning that comes with it daily.
“There is a lot of innovation in glaucoma, and a lot of new devices are being invented to detect and start therapy earlier,” he said. “It is a lifelong disease, and I like that I can get to know my patients over many years of caring for them.”
Dr. Vahedi received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed residencies in ophthalmology and emergency medicine at William Beaumont Hospital. He completed glaucoma fellowships at The University of Texas in Houston, Texas and at The University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He is board certified in ophthalmology and emergency medicine.
He sees patients for glaucoma and cataracts and has expertise in cataract surgery (complex cataracts), trabeculectomy, anterior chamber tube shunts, various MIGS devices, Glaucoma lasers and comprehensive eye exams.
He most enjoys operating and has a passion for cataract and glaucoma surgeries.
“I believe in caring for each patient as if they are my family member,” he said. “I feel that it’s an honor and privilege to take care of patients and I would like patients to be happy with my care.”
Outside of work, Dr. Vahedi has a special interest in learning about history. He also enjoys traveling, running, hiking, cooking, stamp & coin collecting, and playing pickleball.
Dr Vahedi was born and raised in India to Persian parents. He grew up speaking Farsi at home, and Hindi and English in school. His family is Persian and faced persecution in Iran because of being members of the Bahá’í Faith.
